Welcome to the exciting world of outdoor long-distance rifle shooting. Whether you're a seasoned shooter, hunter, varminter or just curious to try something new, our club is the perfect place to get started.

What Is Outdoor Target Shooting?

Outdoor target shooting is a precision sport where shooters aim at distant targets—from 300 up to 1000 yards—with the goal of hitting as close to the bullseye as possible.

Success takes more than aim: it requires safety, reading the wind, adjusting for weather, good ammunition and fine-tuning your technique. It's a challenge—and incredibly rewarding and best of all we can help you with every aspect.

Target Rifle (TR)

Classic prone position, no scope or rest
Iron micrometer sights and a supportive sling
Graded from Tyro (beginner) to A Grade

F-Class

How to Join

Getting started is easy:

Contact the Club Secretary using the button below
Visit us on a club day—watch, ask questions, or have a go, no judgey people, we all started somewhere.
Bring your own gear (if you have it), or come and learn what’s needed

What You’ll Need

Depending on your class or end goals, you’ll need: (we have equipment you can hire)

A rifle (.223 Rem or .308 Win for TR and F-TR, or others for F-Class Open)
Scope (F-Class)
Shooting jacket and sling (TR)
Bipod/rest (F-Class)
Ammunition to suit the rifle - .308 win or 7.62mm available for purchase.
Eye and ear protection
Tablet or mobile phone
Suitable field footware and sunscreen.

Try Target Shooting

Curious to try? This beginner-friendly option gives you:

Six club shooting sessions (Selected ranges)
Coaching and support
Gear and ammo hire available separately
Use of an international grade long range shooting facility

Cost: $45 plus $10 range fee per session.

No Fire Arms licence required when under supervision and control.

Where We Shoot

We shoot at Seddon Range, with distances ranging from 300 to 1000 yards.

The Seddon Range is located in the city of Upper Hutt, at the intersection of Messines Rd, Fryberg Rd and Alexander Road.
